About Us

At Renew Animal Assisted Therapy & Counselling, we believe healing happens in connection, with animals, nature, and self. Our practice offers a gentle, trauma-informed approach to emotional wellbeing for children, teens, and adults.

Led by Karene, a qualified and registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association and equine therapist, Renew Therapy was created as a safe, inclusive space for those who may not have felt supported by traditional therapy settings. Whether you're walking alongside a horse, sitting quietly with a dog, or simply breathing in the stillness of nature, each session is grounded in compassion, presence, and trust.

We work with a wide range of people, including NDIS participants, neurodivergent individuals, and those navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, and stress. Our goal is to provide a space where you can slow down, be heard, and gently reconnect with your inner strength.

Meet Karene – Counsellor, Equine Therapist,
Animal Lover

Karene Counsellor at Renew Animal Assisted Therapy

Hi, I’m Karene. I’m a qualified counsellor and equine therapist with a deep belief in the healing power of animals, nature, and authentic connection. I’ve built Renew Therapy on values of compassion, trust, and emotional safety—especially for those who haven’t felt supported by more traditional therapy settings.

My journey began with becoming a certified Equine Assisted Learning facilitator, which sparked a deeper calling to support people therapeutically. I went on to complete a Diploma in Counselling and am currently undertaking a Master’s Degree in Counselling to further expand and deepen my clinical knowledge.

I have formal training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), and my practice is grounded in trauma-informed, person-centred care. Sessions are tailored to each individual and may include the support of therapy animals, nature, or quiet space for reflection and connection.

I work with people of all ages, with a special interest in supporting neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD and Autism, as well as young people aged 12–25. Whether you’re walking beside a horse, sitting with a therapy dog, or simply breathing in the stillness of the bush, my goal is to provide a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported.
